CHICAGO, Ill — Justice has finally come to fugitive former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who after more than two years on the run was apprehended by Navy SEAL Team Seven late Monday hiding in a concealed underground “rat hole” in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood.
Blagojevich had evaded capture since 2009, when he refused to be taken into custody following his overthrow by the Illinois General Assembly. Sporadic sightings of him were seen from time to time, mostly on reality TV shows and ABC’s “The View,” but despite his media exposure he always managed to remain just a step ahead of authorities.
NEW YORK — In a sweeping victory for Takei rights, the New York legislature over the weekend approved landmark legislation giving “Star Trek” actor George Takei the right to legally marry in the Empire State.
“Oh my, this is a pleasant surprise,” Takei said to reporters as he marched in North Platte, Nebraska’s annual Takei Pride Parade on Sunday. “In fact, I’m happier than Bill Shatner was on the day he got his first hair transplant at the Bosley Institute.”
Columbo sent to investigate Poland air crash, annoys Putin with badgering questions
In tribute to the late Peter Falk, we thought we’d rehash an article we did last year in which Lt. Columbo takes on Vladimir Putin.
SMOLENSK, RUSSIA – In a development that’s drawing the ire of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, the United States has sent one of its top investigators to assist with the inquiry into the mysterious air crash that took the life of Poland’s President and top military brass.
Lieutenant Columbo of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Homicide Division arrived at the scene of the plane crash near Smolensk, Russia on Monday. His presence has raised eyebrows in the Kremlin, given his work on high-profile celebrity murder cases since the 1970s that resulted in the arrest of dozens of actors, writers, socialites and politicians.
“See that’s the thing, when people hear you’re from Homicide they immediately jump to the conclusion you’re looking for foul play,” Columbo said in an exclusive interview. “I’m just here at the request of my superiors and the Polish government to ask some routine questions, that’s all. Frankly, I’d rather be back in the States helping Mrs. Columbo take care of the dog. He’s been pretty depressed lately. We’ve been feeding him chili to snap him out of it, but that hasn’t helped.”
MANCHESTER, NH — In what critics charge is a cynical ploy to “out Reagan” his opponents for the 2012 Republican nomination, front-runner Mitt Romney has announced that he has been possessed by the ghost of the 40th president.
The former Massachusetts Governor made the startling claim at Monday night’s debate between the Republican candidates for president in Manchester, New Hampshire. When asked by CNN moderator John King to respond to conservative critics who charge that he isn’t “Reaganesque” enough to be the GOP nominee, Romney struck back with a spectral shocker:
"It’s funny they should say that, because Ronald Reagan is more than a man I admire and respect; he’s also approximately 52 percent of my soul,” Romney said…
Despite all evidence and a confession to the contrary, a small but growing group of Americans believe Congressman Anthony Weiner is innocent of sending a photo of his bulging briefs to a Seattle college student from his official Twitter account…
Shares of Tina Fey reach record high in response to possible Palin 2012 bid
Shares of “30 Rock” star Tina Fey were up sharply in Tuesday trading, reaching record highs on speculation that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s bus tour of eastern states is a sign she’s gearing up to seek the Republican presidential nomination.
Fey stocks jumped almost 40% to $75.34 by noon on Thursday, fueled by bullish investors who believe a Palin presidential bid would allow the former “Saturday Night Live” star new, lucrative entertainment opportunities to cash in on her dead-on impression of former Republican Vice-Presidential nominee.
“We really feel ‘SNL’ appearances would be the tip of the iceberg,” said Lewis Winthorpe, senior partner at New York’s prestigious Duke and Duke investment firm. “Tina could easily leverage her notoriety as America’s best Sarah Palin impersonator for a prime-time comedy show based on the lives of the Palins, or even a major motion picture. We feel the possibilities for her are truly endless, and investors would do well to add Tina Fey shares to their risk portfolio.”
